Child Protection Policy

 

This statement was adopted by the Parish of Thundersley at a Parochial Church Council Meeting held on  ….4 February 2013……………………………….

  • We accept that the prime duty of care upon the incumbent and Parochial Church Council is to ensure the well-being of children and young people in the church community.
  • We adopt and will implement the House of Bishops’ Policy on Child Protection as commended to us by the policy of the Diocese of Chelmsford (revised January 2013).
  • We appoint  Susan Croucher  as Child Protection Officer to work with the incumbent and PCC to implement policy and procedures.
  • We will display the Childline telephone number.
  • We will ensure that all those authorised to work with children and young people or in a position of authority are appropriately appointed, trained and supported, and provide access to all authorised personnel with a copy of the Diocesan Child Protection Policy, procedures and good practice guidelines.
  • We will pay particular attention to children with special needs and those from ethnic minorities to ensure their full integration and protection within the church community.
  • We will create a culture of informed vigilance which takes children and young people seriously.
  • We will ensure that appropriate pastoral care is available for those adults who have disclosed that they have been abused as children.
  • We will provide, as appropriate, support for all parents and families in the congregation, being aware particularly of parents whose children have suffered abuse.
  • We will ensure that those who may pose a threat to children and young persons are effectively managed and monitored.
  • We will ensure that appropriate health and safety policies and procedures are in place.
  • We will provide appropriate insurance cover for all activities undertaken in the name of the parish.
  • We will review the implementation of the child protection policy, procedures and good practice at least annually.
